Dear readers,

We present here the Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Radiocarbon in the Environment (RE-III). Initially, the organization of the conference was planned for 6–10 July 2020, but due to the epidemiological threat related to COVID-19, we decided to postpone the organization of this event. The form of organization of the conference was also adapted to the epidemiological conditions and related difficulties. Ultimately, this conference was organized on-line using distance communication platforms from 5–9 July 2021. We tried to make every effort to repeat the success of the previous conferences, RE-I in Belfast (2014) and RE-II in Debrecen (2017).

The conference brought together 128 participants from 33 countries who presented their research results during plenary sessions and poster sessions. In total, during the 5 days of this meeting, there were 5 thematic sessions, which included 61 oral presentations and 51 poster presentations.

We look forward to meeting everyone again at RE-IV, which will be held in September 2024 in Lecce, Italy. The meeting will be chaired by Gianluca Quarta and Lucio Calcagnile of the University of Salento.

On behalf of the Organizing Committee,

Andrzej Rakowski

Conference chair

Sławomira Pawełczyk

Conference secretary
