The Journal of Anglican Studies is an academic journal published by Cambridge University Press which provides a serious scholarly conversation on all aspects of Anglicanism. It embraces history, theology, worship, ethics, scripture, canon law, aesthetics and education.

Anglicans live enmeshed in many different cultural contexts. How their faith is expressed in the particular and how it is shared across the globe is a fundamental issue in this tradition.

With its international reach, The Journal of Anglican Studies is able to focus on this question and by doing so offers a distinctive and unique contribution to our understanding of Anglicanism today.

In order to promote the aims of The Journal of Anglican Studies, the Trustees invite students enrolled in a tertiary programme (from bachelor to doctoral level) to submit an essay on any aspect of Anglican Studies. Papers written as part of theological study are welcome and should further the Journal’s commitment to the academic study of Anglicanism. Essays should be academic in style and content and conform to the Instructions for Authors on The Journal of Anglican Studies website which can be accessed here. Careful attention to presentation and accuracy of English is expected in the essays.

A prize of $1,000 Australian will be awarded to the winning entry. The Editor may agree to have the winning student essay published as an article in The Journal of Anglican Studies.

Essays should be sent by email as a file (Microsoft Word) attached to an email message that identifies the author, the course being undertaken and the institution of study. Essays should have an abstract of 150 words or less, and the essay itself should be approximately 3,000 and not exceeding 5,000 words (including notes and references).

To ensure anonymity please do not put your name on the essay but clearly identify yourself, your course and your institution in the covering email.

The judges will be members of the Editorial Board of The Journal of Anglican Studies, and they reserve the right not to award the prize if the expected standard of essays is not reached. The judges will be looking for a serious academic essay that engages an important aspect of Anglican Studies and is in harmony with the ethos and style of The Journal of Anglican Studies.
