World's oldest University printer and publisher donates books to Cambridge's newest library

The world’s oldest University printer and publisher - Cambridge University Press, has boosted the stock of Cambridgeshire’s newest Library.
A team from Cambridge University Press presented the new books to the library, which cover a wide variety of subjects, from evolution to climate change.
The books boosted the collection at Cambridge Central Library which re-opened on September 29, after an extensive rebuild and refurbishment programme – the Library contains more than 100,000 items for loan to the public.
Cambridgeshire County Council Cabinet Member for Communities, Councillor Sir Peter Brown, said: “I think it is fantastic that Cambridge University Press which is the world’s oldest university publisher and printer, has shown such support for Cambridgeshire’s newest public library – the books donated by the CUP are a real boost to the already extensive stock of items on the shelves.”
The Library in Cambridge’s Lion Yard, welcomed more than 17,000 visitors during its first week of operation and visitor numbers have continued to rise.
Heidi Mulvey from Cambridge University Press, added: “We are delighted that Cambridge Central library has opened it doors again to the public, after a period of refurbishment. The library is such an important part of central Cambridge and the local community, and we’re pleased to donate a gift of books to celebrate its reopening.
“Cambridgeshire’s public libraries provide an invaluable service to the community and we have been glad to collaborate over the years on various projects.”
