Cambridge University Press has announced the acquisition of around 40 titles from Georgian Press’s best-selling list of English Language teaching resources.
These new titles will complement and build on the Press’s renowned publishing for English Language teaching globally. Cambridge is already one of the most popular publishers of English Language teaching materials and a market leader in IGCSE learning resources for University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE).
The acquired list contains popular titles such as Success International: English Skills for IGCSE by Marian Berry, which are aimed at those teaching and studying IGCSE English as a Second Language (E2L). There are also revision and practice test materials for IGCSE E2L in Listening and Speaking as well as Reading and Writing.
The new titles acquired by Cambridge University Press also include the Listen Here! course of listening activities which is designed for lower and intermediate students to improve their listening skills in English. There are also a number of skills-based teaching and learning publications that support areas such as reading, note-taking and vocabulary skills.
These new titles are aimed at international students all over the world, but they will also appeal to learners in the UK. Recent announcements by the UK Government allow all schools in the state sector to use central funding for their pupils to take IGCSE English as a Second Language as well as other IGCSE examinations. Cambridge already has the market leading resource for IGCSE English as a Second Language with Cambridge IGCSE English as a Second Language, a highly acclaimed coursebook, workbook and teacher’s book series by well-known author Peter Lucantoni.
The contract with Georgian Press was signed on Tuesday, 3 November 2009 by Hanri Pieterse, Managing Director of Cambridge Learning, and George Poulos, Managing Director and owner of Georgian Press.
Hanri Pieterse, Managing Director of Cambridge Learning, said “The Georgian Press list will fully complement a key and growing area of focus for us particularly in the area of first and second language teaching for IGCSE and Advanced Level. These materials are known and respected widely and we look forward to continuing to work with the authors in the development of new and extended materials.”
Stephen Bourne, Chief Executive at the Press, commenting on the acquisition said: “"We are delighted to be able to add to our growing global list of English Language learning and teaching resources. These new titles form an important part of our future growth in the international English Language examinations market, and I’m sure our customers will appreciate this enhanced range of resources to support them.”
The new titles will be available from Cambridge University Press from January 2010, although orders can be taken from 3 November 2009.
