Reginaidus, miseratione divina, Sanctae Mariae in Cosmedin sanctae Romanae ecclesiae diaconus cardinalis, Polus nuncupatus, ad serenissimos Philippum et Mariam, Angliae reges, fidei defensores, et ad universum Angliae regnum, sanctissimi domini nostri papae et sedis apostolicae de latere legatos, ad perpetuam rei memoriam.
Cum felicis recordationis Iulius Papa III post allatom ei nuntium, serenissimam Mariam, Henrici VIII Regis filiam, tum Angliae principem, quae semper in recta fide religioneque firmam sese, atque constantem praestitisset, summo consensu atque una omnium voce reginam declaratam fuisse, in magnam spem adductos esset, fore, ut hoc regnum ad sanctae catholicae ecclesiae unionem, a qua complures annos separatum fuerat, revocaretur; ut id quamprimum fieret, nos, pro pastorali suo officio et paterna caritate, suum et apostolicae sedis legatum de latere ad ipsam Mariam Reginam et universum hoc regnum misit.
Quod onus licet humeris nostris impar, tamen, ut eius mandatis oboediremus, divino favore et gratia freti suscepimus atque eo promptius, quod etiam debita erga patriam caritas ad id nos impellebat; ас Dei quidem in primis benignitate, qui populum hunc misericordiae suae oculis respicere dignatos est, tum serenissimorum Mariae Reginae et Philippi Regis, quem illi matrimonium coniunctom Deus in hac praeclara et sancta actione adiutorem esse voluit, et ad quem etiam idem Iulius nos legatum postea declaravit, studio et opera summaque; erga ipsum Deum pietate effectom est, ut hoc regnum ad unitatem sanctae The reformation of England, from the decrees of Reginald Cardinal Pole, legate of the apostolic see, A.D. 1556.
Reginald, surnamed Pole, by divine compassion, cardinal deacon of the holy Roman church of Samt Mary in Cosmedin, legate de latere of our most sacred lord the pope, and of the apostolic see, to the most serene Philip and Mary, Sovereigns of England, Defenders of the Faith, and to the whole realm of England, as a permanent record of the event.
