• • Sporting events, such as the Olympic Games, often have their own official websites that offer the most up-to-date information. However, beware! Many are created by fans who may have little academic background. Always check the origin and currency of the information provided. This chapter guides students to good academic starting points to explore to find further information on specific types of sports and individual events.

• • Students of sports studies may be interested in the physiology of exercise and/or nutrition and diet (see the Medicine and Nursing and Biology chapters), management of sports programmes (see Management and Business Studies) and the economic impact of sporting events (see Economics). The Sociology chapter also lists resources relevant to the social and cultural aspects of sport.
