Summary
“Idle talk” denotes the fallen and inauthentic form of discourse. Heidegger defines discourse as the “articulation of intelligibility” and as “the ‘significant’ structuring of being-in-the-world” (SZ 161).1 Discourse is, along with disposedness and understanding, an existential that ineluctably characterizes Dasein as the human form of life.
