Summary

Perspective of personnel function development in Polish hospitals

Introduction

Changing environment of the sector of health care entities brings new challenges for these organizations. Concentrating on material aspects of the issue will not allow them to seize the chances or to measure the risks coming from their surrounding. it is necessary to concentrate on intangible capital management, involving human capital above all. Such challenges are considered as: an ageing society with the increase in health care demand as a consequence, shortage in medical personnel both of senior and middle ranks, or bigger requirements of patients for better current and perceived quality of medical service.

The indicated rationale determine the need for both analysis and diagnosis of the way personnel function is implemented in Polish health care entities because their competitiveness depends on the effective system of human resource management, as it is presented in the literature or results from the observation of health care entities undertakings. In the context of the significance of personnel function implementation, the article aims at indicating the way the personnel function is implemented in the sector of Polish health care entities and showing the possibility of personnel function development.

The data from the research, which was done in independent public and non-public hospitals, have been used to describe the way the personnel function is implemented in those hospitals. In her conclusions, the author of the article concentrated on stating the instructions for improving the implementation of the personnel function in the surveyed organizations.
