Summary

TsGADA f. 283, op. I d. 16 (contracts with the Chancellery of Guardianship), contracts nos. 48 and 49,II. 128–32 and 133–70b).

Two contracts between the colonists settling in Belovezh, and Premier–Major Jacob Freyhold on behalf of the President of the Little Russian College. Signed in Strelna, outside Petersburg; undated. (The Belovezh colonies were set up in 1766.)

The colony was to include an agricultural and an urban or artisan settlement; the first contract (no. 48) was made with the farmers, the second with the artisans. The texts are in large part very similar. Italics in the text indicates words written in Latin script and slightly larger than the Gothic script of the remainder. All orthography as in the original, except for the German B.

The first contract has 115 colonist signatures or marks, the second 51.

Wir endes Unterschriebene die zu der Etabelirung nach der Ukraine bestimmte Colonisten, bescheinigen und bekräftigen hiemit dass auf hohen Befehl d.H. Major Freyhold uns nachfolgende Conditiones bestehend in, 7, Punkte bekannt gemacht hat gegen welche wir auf nichts einzuwenden haben, sondern vielmehr mit selbigen völlig zu frieden sind und demnach verlangen nach der Ukraine etabeliret zu werden.
