Summary

A picture is worth a thousand words, goes the saying. I have selected the following photographs from among the Commission of Experts’ 3,000 photographs and 300 hours of video recordings, which are a part of the Annexes to the Final Report. Many of the photographs were taken by myself or a member or staff of the Commission of Experts under my direction. None of these photographs were taken commercially. Their copyright belongs to the United Nations since the Commission of Experts was established pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 780. They are all in the archives of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, though for some unexplained reason, they were never used by the Tribunal.

To the extent possible, I have grouped these photographs by subject matter. The purpose of including them in this book is to convey the harm, pain and suffering that existed throughout the conflict. I have not identified any of the victims or perpetrators for privacy purposes.
