Summary
I (Tracy) grew up alternating between being pressured to restrict food and to eat. My older sister seemed to always be on a “strict diet” and for a rather long period of time refused any food other than vegetables and yogurt. She was a role model for me, so at five years old, I followed her lead. I used her strategies, with the goal of losing weight. I even tried to convince people I didn’t like chocolate so they wouldn’t offer it to me. I learned it was acceptable to restrict (and wrong to enjoy) tasty food.
