Summary
Charles Bonnet (1720–1793) was born in Geneva to a wealthy French family who had settled in Switzerland in the sixteenth century. He was a scholar, naturalist and philosopher who is best remembered for the syndrome that is named after him. He described in 1860 in his book, Essai Analytique sur les Faculties de l’Ame, the visual hallucinations of his 87-year-old grandfather, Charles Lullin (Hedges, 2007, pp. 112–3).
