Summary
Having published poems while still a child, by the time she was twenty Landon had gained many admirers under the initials “L.E.L.” She soon had to earn money through writing to support her family when her father’s finances collapsed. She was enormously productive, and many of her books, both poetry and novels, sold very well. In June 1838 she married the governor of Cape Coast, Ghana, and by August was settled there; two months later she was found dead under mysterious circumstances, never resolved.
