Summary
Every individual has a set of unique behavioral characteristics, popularly called “personality”. These traits are consistent patterns of behavior, emotion, and cognition. Traits vary greatly between individuals, can be identified early in life, and are fairly stable over time. The broadest characteristics of personality do not change in any dramatic way between the ages of 18 and 60 (Costa & Widiger, 2013).
