Summary

Wikipedia is the most influential example of a wiki, so people tend to define a wiki as an online encyclopedia, but Wikipedia’s own definition is rather different: “A wiki is a website that provides collaborative modification of its content and structure directly from the web browser.” This is a technical definition of how a wiki operates, and does not limit application of the technology to encyclopedias.
