Summary
Assessment of trans and non-binary people falls broadly into two forms: the usual assessment carried out in mental health services for mental health concerns which is somewhat adapted to accommodate trans patients or specialised assessment for hormones and surgeries which is usually carried out in National Health Service (NHS) gender identity clinics. While many readers will be unlikely to carry out the latter, we have also included details of that assessment here. After some general introductory remarks, we shall take these two forms of assessment in turn; note also that this consideration of general assessment may usefully be read alongside Chapter 4, Mental Health Conditions.
