Summary

CABARITA, NSW (kabă-ree-tă), a western Sydney waterside suburb standing on Hen and Chicken Bay, an inlet of the parramatta river. It is in concord Municipality (map 26:G5) and its name is said to be a Dharuk Aboriginal term meaning ‘by the water’ (not verified).

CABBAGE TREE ISLAND, NSW, a small island in port stephens (map 11) which in 1954 became the first faunal reserve in the State. Notable among the many seabirds that nest there is the Gould's petrel, Pterodroma leucoptera.

CABONNE, NSW (kă-bonn), a shire (pop. 11 383) in the central west of the State centred on molong (map 6A). Other towns and localities in the shire include Belgravia, cudal, cumnock, manildra and Ophir. Parts of canowindra, eugowra, gooloogong, millthorpe, orange, spring hill and yeoval are also within the shire boundaries.

CABOOLTURE, Qld (kă-boll-tchă), 2705S 152 57E (map 10), a town (pop. 8915) and shire (pop. 47 494) on the northern outskirts of metropolitan Brisbane. Its name comes from kabultur, a Gabi-gabi Aboriginal word meaning ‘carpet-snake’. That part of the district which is not yet urbanised produces pineapples and bananas. Other centres and localities in the shire include beachmere, bongaree, bribie island, burpengary, D'Aquilar, deception bay, Donnybrook, Elimbah, morayfield, Mount Mee, narangba, Neurum, toorbul, Wamuran, Upper Caboolture, woodford and woorim.

CABRAMATTA, NSW (kabră-mat-tă), and Cabramatta West, two south-western Sydney suburbs in the City of fairfield (map 26:C3). In recent years many Vietnamese refugees have settled there.
