1 Professor Glover uses the conventional French spelling of the town but in Appendix 1 the Arabic document identifies the name as Daar al-Mu‘ty (‘land of the bestower’, from the verb ‘ayn-taa’-yaa’: ‘to give or to bestow’). It is not one of the 99 names of Allah which include al-Muhyi (‘the giver of life’).
