Abstract

Doolittle (1989) provides interesting information on pocitos and registros but does not show that they are associated with irrigation agriculture exclusively, nor does he address the main point of our paper — that Hierve el Agua was a salt-producing site. We suggest several criteria for distinguishing salt-production sites from agricultural sites and present some additional observations in support of our interpretation of Hierve el Agua's function.

Doolittle (1989) provee información interesante sobre pocitos y registros, pero no demuestra que se asocian exclusivamente con la agricultura de irrigación, y tampoco trata de nuestro propósito que se producía sal en el sitio de Hierve el Agua. Sugerimos algunos criterios para distinguir entre los sitios en donde se producian la sal y los sitios en donde se practicaba la agricultura, y presentamos observaciónes adicionales en favor de nuestra interpretación.
