Annals of Actuarial Science (AAS) - Associate Editors
10 Oct 2023 to 06 Nov 2023

Application closing date: Sunday 5th November 2023

Annals of Actuarial Science (AAS) is seeking to appoint four new Associate Editors to its international Editorial Board.

AAS, which is owned by the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) and published by Cambridge University Press, has become a well-established and respected journal since its first publication in 2006. AAS publishes research in all areas of actuarial science and related fields, with the aim of promoting work that is rigorous and of clear relevance to actuarial applications.

Key tasks

The newly appointed Associate Editors will join the AAS Editorial Board, currently consisting of an Editor-in-Chief, two Editors, and 15 Associate Editors. Associate Editors provide guidance and support to the Editor-in-Chief and Editors by:

  • Providing advice and helping to maintain and develop the overall quality, integrity and impact of the journal.
  • Assisting with the refereeing process, and occasionally managing a submission’s peer review process in cases where the Editor-in-Chief or one of the Editors are not able to do so.
  • Acting as ambassadors for the journal in the wider international actuarial community.

Key skills and experience

An Associate Editor should:

  • Have a strong track record of publication in international peer-reviewed journals.
  • Have extensive refereeing experience in leading academic journals in actuarial science and related fields, and an awareness of best editorial practices.
  • Have a solid understanding of emerging themes and trends in actuarial science and wider fields.
  • Ideally, have some prior experience of acting as part of an Editorial team.

While Associate Editors are expected to have a wide understanding of research in actuarial science, the journal currently is seeking Associate Editors with specific expertise in the areas of:

  • Mortality modelling
  • Non-life insurance statistics
  • Insurance economics
  • Data science and statistical software
