page 131 note 3 Oakeshott's revised typology is given in the Sword in the Age of Chivalry, 1964. We are grateful to Mr. Oakeshott for his confirmation of the various dating features which he suggests are: cross and pommel (1275–1325), mark (1290–1340). He has also pointed out that the use of a mark on the tang was quite common in three main periods: La Tene (I, II, III), c. A.D. 250–450 and c. 1250–1425.
