ABSTRACT

Nurse anesthetists are crucial healthcare providers throughout the world. The duties, regulations, and educational requirements for nurse anesthetists vary from country to country. The purpose of this article is to provide the reader with a brief historical perspective on the development of nurse anesthesia in the United States; describe current nurse anesthesia practice; and allow the reader to compare and contrast it with the practice of nurse anesthesia in their own country.
