A new procedure and counting instrument for acaricide tests

Abstract

After exposure for 24 h in polypropylene envelopes impregnated with the test substance, larvae of Boophilus microplus (Can.) are placed on a hot-plate (40°C) under light to stimulate movement among the survivors. The larvae are drawn one at a time into a suction bottle through a metal capillary into which is built a photo-electric cell that is actuated by each larva as it passes through. The electric impulses are transmitted to a counting device and recorded.
