The following statements appear on an elaborately tabulated diagram which it does not seem worth while to reproduce since this could not be done easily on pages the size of the volume. The paper is endorsed in Robinson's hand : " Abstract of State and supposed cases as first drawn out on the Royal Marriage Bill." The division on the final vote on this bill, the last of a number of divisions in the debate, which took place in March, 1772, is given in the Parliamentary History, (XVII, 424), as 168 to 115 in its favour. Other divisions were better attended than this; the figures on one question were 268 to 140.

1779, September 17.—Memorandum endorsement by John Robinson. “Covers in which the 24 Bank Notes of 500l. each were enclosed with his Majesty's Docquet thereon, and which were delivered by his Majesty to Lord North this day and given by Lord North to J[ohn] R[obinson] and which were sent to Mr. Drummond by me on the 18th and placed to the credit of my private account B—, and which sum was for twelve months of the additional 1.000l. per month from July, 1778, to June, 1779, inclusive.”

The following “State” is perhaps the most detailed description extant of the actual forces represented in the parliaments of the latter part of the eighteenth century. Nowhere else has the real character of a parliamentary election been revealed so clearly. These memoranda were made subsequent to the passage of Fox's India Bill by the House of Commons and previous to the dismissal of Fox and North after its rejection by the House of Lords. It seems likely that the work was done by Robinson in the second week in December, 1783.

The papers included in this section have little connection with those in the three preceding sections save the facts that Mr. Stevens transcribed them from the papers left by John Robinson and that much of the money itemized in these accounts was expended in the management of parliamentary elections. The correspondence relating to the payment of the debts of Lord North is included in this section because this payment was a special expenditure from the private funds of the king, and it would seem to belong here rather than among the papers relating more directly to parliamentary business.
