This brief concerns the present state of knowledge of the immature stages of Lepidoptera. It is written with three objects in mindéto focus attention on the widespread neglect of serious studies of the immature stages and the weaknesses to be found in projects involving them, to interest in this rugged, highly demanding branch of lepidopterology the few students that may be qualified, and to urge the provision of appropriate positions for which the students can apply.
