CHANGES IN RELATIVE ABUNDANCE OF THE FLEA BEETLES PHYLLOTRETA STRIOLATA AND PHYLLOTRETA CRUCIFERAE (COLEOPTERA: CHRYSOMELIDAE) IN SASKATCHEWAN PARKLAND WITH INCREASING DISTANCE FROM THE BOREAL FOREST1

Abstract

Mean catches of Phyllotreta striolata (F.) in allyl isothiocyanate baited traps decreased southwards from the boreal forest and northern parkland to the central parkland of Saskatchewan, while the opposite was true for Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze). Similar trends in the relative numbers of the two species were evident in sweep net catches in canola crops.

Les captures moyennes de Phyllotreta striolata (F.) par les pièges appâtés à l'isothiocyanate allylé diminuent à mesure que l'on descend du sud de la forêt boréale et de la prairie-parc, du nord au centre de la Saskatchewan, alors qu'elles augmentent pour Phyllotreta cruciferae (Goeze). Des collectes par filet fauchoir dans les cultures de colza canola ont donné des résultats similaires quant aux nombres relatifs des deux espèces.
