This species varies in color from very pare golden yellow to reddish saffron, and in size from about one-fourth of an inch to about one-third. Likewise as to the size and distinctness of the marginal streaks on the fore wings and as to the dark margins of these streaks. Sometimes only the second dorsal and costal will be dark margined, and these not very distinctly; and sometimes all, including the basal streak, will be distinctly dark margined.
