3 Although the bibliography for such a pioneering work as this cannot be exhaustive, one would be happier to find some mention of the statistical work of David Reed, both in Middle English and in present-day dialectology. One might also wish that Herdan could have published his book under conditions which would have eliminated the annoyingly frequent typographical errors.
