This is the text of Hdt. 6.105.1–2, as printed by the most recent editors, Wilson and Hornblower–Pelling:

4 Hornblower–Pelling (n. 2), 231: ‘Wilson's bold emendation of MS Ἀθηναίοισι … ἀπαγγεῖλαι looks right (or perhaps e.g. Ἀθηναίοισι …

5 See previous n.

6 It functions as aorist of ἐρωτάω. See Chantraine, P., Dictionnaire Étymologique de la Langue Grecque, Histoire des mots, Tome II (Paris, 1970)Google Scholar, 370.

7 In eleven cases out of twelve the verb introduces an indirect question (the only exception is Hdt. 1.19.2: τὸν θεὸν ἐπειρέσθαι περὶ τῆς νούσου).
