¹ Perhaps it would be appropriate here to draw the attention of the authors and of other archaeologists with or without ornithological interests to the important work which continues to be done by Professor Joachim Boessneck and his team at the Institute of Palaeoanatomy, Domestication Research and History of Veterinary Medicine in the University of Munich on the identification of animal, bird and fish bones found on archaeological sites.
