Development and Psychopathology

After launching Development and Psychopathology (DPP) in 1989 with Cambridge University Press, Dr. Dante Cicchetti is completing his tenure as founding Editor-in-Chief in December 2024. Cambridge is now inviting applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief for a five-year appointment beginning January 1, 2025.

The deadline for applications is August 16, 2024.

DPP is a multidisciplinary journal devoted to the publication of original, empirical, theoretical and review papers which address the interrelationship of typical and atypical development in children and adults. It is intended to serve the field of developmental psychopathology which strives to understand patterns of adaptation and maladaptation throughout the lifespan. This journal is of interest to psychologists, psychiatrists, social scientists, neuroscientists, pediatricians, and researchers.

Interested applicants should send a curriculum vita and cover letter along with an abbreviated development plan (not to exceed two pages) and the names and email addresses of three references, to Jessica Basile at Cambridge University Press (details below). Applications will be reviewed by committee, and final appointment decisions will be made by the Syndicate of Cambridge University Press.

Working with a peer review coordinator provided by the publisher, editorial responsibilities will include:

  • Shaping the strategic direction of the journal, in cooperation with Cambridge
  • Overseeing a robust peer review process (using the ScholarOne online submission system)
  • Making final article acceptance decisions
  • Establishing and maintaining an active, international, and diverse Editorial Board


In your application, please indicate your:

  • Experience of publishing in the field
  • Editorial experience, ideally with an academic journal
  • Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and work as part of a team
  • Strong and international professional and academic links
  • Organizational, communication and technical skills
  • Institutional support, financial or otherwise, to support your work on the journal
  • Proposed plan for development, including areas such as:
    • Engagement of journal reviewers and editorial board members
    • Recommendations for content development, including new directions for the journal/areas of focus for future special issues


There are no location requirements attached to the position of Editor-in-Chief. Teams of two or more editors are welcome to apply jointly. An honorarium is provided, along with peer review administration assistance.
