The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released its fourth major scientific assessment of climate change in the spring of 2007. Each of the IPCC assessment reports, published every seven years or so, has grown progressively more sobering and less uncertain in its projections of climate change and its likely impacts on ecosystems and human societies over the next century.
