This investigation has been undertaken at the request of the Birmingham Committee of the British Empire Cancer Campaign. The chemical work has been carried out under the general advice of Prof. W. N. Haworth, F.R.S., in the Department of Chemistry, and the work on the clinical side under Prof. G. Has well Wilson, M.D., in the Department of Pathology.
