Both the sensitation of typhoid bacilli by serum and their ingestion by leucocytes when sensitised, have been shown by Ledingham (1912) to take place in accordance with the laws regulating an adsorption process, the removal of opsonin from a serum by bacteria, and of sensitised bacteria from an emulsion by leucocytes following very satisfactorily the adsorption equation y=kxn, where y= the amount adsorbed, x= the amount left free and k and n are constants.
