El estigma de la enfermedad mental: Conceptos, consecuencias e iniciativas para reducirlo

Resumen
Las personas con enfermedad mental se encuentran con frecuencia con el estigma público y pueden sufrir de autoestigma. Esta revisión pretende clarificar el concepto de estigma de la enfermedad mental y analizar las consecuencias para los individuos que la tienen. Después de una panorámica conceptual del estigma, debatimos dos conceptos destacados de estigma de la enfermedad mental y consecuencias del estigma, centrándonos en el autoestigma/fortalecimiento y el temor al estigma como barrera para la utilización de los servicios sanitarios. Finalmente, debatimos tres estrategias principales para reducir el estigma -la protesta, la educación y el contacto- y damos ejemplos de campañas actuales contra él. Las iniciativas contra el estigma bien diseñadas ayudarán a disminuir las consecuencias negativas del estigma de la enfermedad mental.
