Inmigración y psicopatología: un estudio clínico

Resumen

Se compararon tres grupos de 342 pacientes psiquiátricos griegos, ibéricos y belgas, emparejados según sexo, edad y tiempo de intemamiento en un hospital universitario en Bruselas. Entre los pacientes inmigrantes, se diagnosticaba más esquizofrenia y trastorno esquizoafectivo/psicosis atípica. Ansiedad somática, pérdida de libido, ideas delirantes y alucinaciones eran síntomas que los clínicos observaban más en los pacientes inmigrantes que en los nativos. Era más probable que se produjeran síntomas atípicos y cambio de diagnóstico entre pacientes inmigrantes. Una proporción más elevada de pacientes inmigrantes de segunda generación tenía un diagnóstico de esquizofrenia que la primera generación o los belgas. A los pacientes inmigrantes varones les prescribían fármacos ansiolíticos con más frecuencia que a los nativos varones, pero era menos probable que los derivaran para psicoterapia. Los autores se preguntan si estos hallazgos se derivan de usos específicos de los servicios psiquiátricos o de sesgos en la actitud de los clínicos hacia pacientes de origen étnico diferente.
