It has been held that Personality Disorders can't be diagnosed before adulhood. However, clinical experience shows that Borderline Personality Disorder in adolescents resembles DSM-IV criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder as defined for adults. Moreover, a significant proportion of Borderline Personality Disorder adult patients show psychotic symptoms, but the literature about psychotic breaks in adolescents with Borderline Personality Disorder is scarce. We present a clinical case of a seventeen year old girl diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder who presented two brief exuberant psychotic breaks, followed by complete remission. Additionally, the authors present a brief overview of the literature on psychotic breaks in Borderline Personality Disorders.
