President Clinton will travel to China in late June and early July at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin. He will hold talks with President Jiang and other Senior Chinese officials during the visit. The President's visit reciprocates President Jiang's visit to the United States last October-November. The President looks to the visit as an opportunity to expand areas of cooperation in our improving relationship with China and to discuss frankly areas of difference.

The Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, Michel Camdessus, visited Moscow on February 17–19, 1998 at the invitation of the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation, Viktor S. Chernomyrdin, to discuss the economic policy program for 1998 pursued by the Government and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation in the context of the medium-term economic strategy supported by the IMF's Extended Fund Facility (EFF) covering 1996–1998.The Prime Minister and the Managing Director share a common assessment of the situation, of the strategy, and the policies needed to bring the program to a full success given the prevailing challenges in the international financial environment.

Acting on a recommendation from Secretary of State Albright, President Clinton today sent to the Congress his annual list of those major illicit drug-producing and drug-transit countries that have been certified as either cooperating fully with the United States or taking adequate steps on their own in the fight against drugs. We can only successfully meet the transnational threat of drugs in cooperation and partnership with other nations, President Clinton said. Building on our efforts at home in reducing the demand for drugs, I want to work with our increasingly committed partners in the hemisphere and around the world to stem the supply.
