Dr. Martin Divoky: Faraday Isolation and Harmonic Conversion on High Energy Kilowatt Laser Bivoj | HPLSE live streaming

Bivoj/DiPOLE100 laser system is Yb:YAG kilowatt nanosecond multi slab laser system operating at cryogenic temperatures. It can generate 2-14 ns arbitrarily shaped pulses with energy up to 146 J at 10 Hz repetition rate at wavelength 1030 nm.

The group of Dr. Martin Divoky from HiLASE has published a research article——"Kilowatt-class high-energy frequency conversion to 95 J at 10 Hz at 515 nm" in 2023 in High Power Laser Science and Engineering, which has been selected to be On the Cover by the Co-Editors-in-Chief. In their article, they report on current upgrades of Bivoj laser with large aperture Faraday isolator for kW pulsed laser with 30 dB isolation ratio, on harmonic conversion to 515 nm with energy of 95 J at repetition rate of 10 Hz, which corresponds to 950 W of average power.

We are honored to have Dr. Martin Divoky, the first/corresponding author of the paper, to be the guest speaker of HPL's live streaming at CEST 9:30a.m. – 10:30 a.m. (BJS 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. ) on 17 May 2024. He will introduce how to achieve Faraday isolation and harmonic conversion on the high energy and high power kilowatt laser Bivoj. The event will be hosted by Guoqing Chang, an editorial board member of High Power Laser Science and Engineering.

Introduction of Guest Speaker:

Martin Divoky, graduated and obtained Ph.D. from Czech Technical University in Prague. His Ph.D. was done in collaboration with Institute of Physics (IoP) of the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS) in the field of chirped pulse amplification for laser PALS, he managed dispersion systems for stretching and compression of ultra short optical systems. Later, he joined HiLASE and became responsible for development of new generation of diode pumped high energy and high power laser systems, which resulted in laser Bivoj (laser with highest average power for >1 J pulse energy).

Introduction of Host:

Guoqing Chang, graduated with both Bachelor and Master degrees from Electronics Engineering department of Tsinghua University and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Center for Ultrafast Optical Science at the University of Michigan. After staying at the University of Michigan as a postdoctoral research fellow for about one year, he joined the Research Laboratory of Electronics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a postdoctoral research associate. In August 2012, he moved to the Center for free electron laser (CFEL) at Hamburg (Germany) as the head of the Helmholtz Young investigator group "Ultrafast Laser Optics and Coherent Microscopy" under the ultrafast optics and X-Rays division. He was granted Tenure in 2016. In 2017, he joined Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences as a Professor. His current research focuses on high-power ultrafast fiber lasers, ultrafast nonlinear optics, and multi-photon microscopy for biomedical imaging.
