Hipparcos – The Esa Space Astrometry Mission: Overview and Status

This paper summarises the key features of the Hipparcos satellite design, and presents an overview of the current project status including results of the evaluation of the first hardware items. A recent assessment of the achievable accuracy for the main mission and for Tycho is also presented.
