Visites à la Croix-Rouge de l'Inde

Si la Croix-Rouge est de fondation assez récente dans l'Inde, elle a trouvé en cet immense pays des adeptes enthousiastes, et ceux-ci font tout ce qu'ils peuvent pour secouer l'indolence naturelle de la population.
Il m'a été très agréable — en revenant de la XVe Conférence internationale — de constater par moi-même que la Croix-Rouge de l'Inde a pris des développements réjouissants. Sans doute l'influence de l'institution ne saurait se comparer à l'action que la Croix-Rouge exerce au Japon où la Maison impériale la protège de son prestige séculaire. Il faut d'ailleurs se rappeler que les 350 millions d'Indiens appartiennent à plusieurs religions, qu'ils sont séparés par le régime des castes et divisés par la multiplicité de leurs langues; c'est ainsi que les circulaires sont imprimées en douze langues et traduites sur place dans les différents idiomes provinciaux.
