Introduzione

L'analisi comparata delle basi sociali e demografiche del comportamento elettorale ha fatto grandi progressi nel decennio scorso, culminando nel manuale Electoral Behavior, curato da Richard Rose (1974a), che compara in modo sistematico dodici democrazie occidentali. Di conseguenza, si sono ormai accumulate prove importanti a favore della tesi che vede nella classe e nella religione i due principali fattori determinanti la scelta del partito. Rispetto ad essi, l'influenza di altre variabili sociali e demografiche appare molto piú debole.
