A reduced model of chaotic magnetic fluctuations in a tokamak plasma

Abstract
Nonlinear interactions of tearing modes result in chaotic magnetic fluctuations. A system of ordinary differential equations is derived to model the nonlinear interactions of magnetic islands with different helicities. For a reasonable set of parameters, the solution shows chaotic behaviour.
