The N2 tide and semidiurnal amphidromes around the British Isles

A numerical model is used to derive the N2 tide around the British Isles. The model can derive any semidiurnal astronomical constituent in about 5 tidal cycles to > 90% accuracy. This simulation demonstrates the importance of quadratic friction and frequency in determining the relative positions of the N2, M2 and S2 amphidromes.
