Abstract

The rare deep-sea family Bathypalaemonellidae is known from a small number of specimens and includes two genera. The deep-sea coral reefs are important habitats that aggregate the fauna, acting as feeding and reproduction sites for many species. Bathypalaemonella texana was previously recorded only from the type locality (Gulf of Mexico). This is the second global record of this species and the first record of this rare species in the south-western Atlantic (Brazil). It was collected in a deep-sea coral reef habitat.
