Enzymatic Synthesis of Chiral Lactones and Polyesters

Abstract

Lipases in organic solvents catalyse lactonisation or polymerisation of ω-hydroxyesters. Under these conditions the enzymes exhibit both enantioselectivity and prochiral selectivity. This approach was used to develop the synthesis of chiral γ-lactones and polyesters.
