Destocking in the Euro Area

Extract

Recession in the Euro Area continues. The contraction in the fourth quarter of 2008 was much sharper than that observed in the previous quarter. The Euro Area economy shrank by 1.6 per cent on a quarterly basis as compared to a decline of 0.3 per cent in the third quarter of 2008. Early 2009 has seen further decreases in economic activity in the single currency block.
