1 Harlaftis, Gelina and Papakonstantinou, Katerina eds., Creek shipping, 1700–1821 (Athens: forthcom¬ing).Google Scholar This book is the result of a research project titled “Creek Maritime History, 1700–1821” funded by the EU and the Creek Ministry of Education and was undertaken by the Department of History of Ionian University during the period 2004–6. Its aim was to identify, chart and interpret the path of the fleet of Ottoman and Venetian Creek subjects in the trade and shipping of the Mediterranean Sea during the eighteenth century. The team consisted of 20 individuals including Creek, Turkish, Italian, Maltese and Dutch researchers who worked in the Archives of Venice, İstanbul, Trieste, Malta, Messina, Naples, Livorno, Genoa, Marseilles, London and Amsterdam, along with those of Athens, Salónica, Heraklion, Corfu, Cephalonia, Hydra and Spetses. The final product is Amphitrete, a data¬base with about 15,000 entries of Creek-owned merchant vessels in six languages, Creek, Ottoman, Italian, French, English and Dutch (homogenised in Greek).
