2 No further volumes of the edition have appeared since 2011's publication of the seventh volume of writings from 1864–1865, which means 30 years of Hanslick's criticism remain to be published.

4 Some critics republished their writings in book form. For instance, the pianist Heinrich Ehrlich (1822–1899) published his criticism in collections including Schlaglichter und Schlagschatten aus der Musikwelt (Berlin, 1872) and Aus Allen Tonarten (Berlin, 1888). Before his time as a music critic for the Berliner Tageblatt (1878–98) he was a political correspondent for the Vossische Zeitung (1867–69).

6 The most important music journals on ANNO are the Allgemeine musikalische Zeitung (1798–1882, without the years 1849–62, 1878–82); Musikalisches Wochenblatt (1870–1910, without the years 1894–1906); Neue Zeitschrift für Musik (1834–1991, without the years 1894–1904, 1906–21, and 1944–91); and Signale für die musikalische Welt (1843–1941, missing the years 1872–75, 1885–86, and 1901–12).

8 193 newspapers are only a small proportion of the titles in circulation. In 1895, for instance, greater Berlin was calculated to have a total of 834 Zeitungen (dailies) and Zeitschriften (magazines). See Dahms, Gustav, Das Litterarische Berlin.
