The virulence to rats of five Entamoeba histolytica-like strains capable of growth at 25°C and attempts to discover similar strains
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 06 April 2009
Extract
Five strains of Entamoeba histolytica isolated from man and capable of growth at room temperature were tested for virulence by inoculation into the caeca of young rats. The results showed all strains to have a low infectivity and none produced caecal ulceration. Ten laboratory strains of E. histolytica were examined for growth at 25 °C, but none were established at this low temperature.
